Reminders widget in Today always empty

Summary:
Even though I have a number of reminders (some with due dates, some not) nothing ever shows up in the Reminders widget in Today. I see this on two Macs both running El Capitan.

Steps to Reproduce:
Enable the Reminders widget in Today.

Expected Results:
Should see current reminders.

Actual Results:
See nothing at all.
