Xcode9b1 - function menu flashes when typing

Summary:
Hi!

Whenever I pause typing, the function menu flashes - it erases itself and redraws (with no visible change of contents).

I find this distracting - my eye gets grabbed by the flash, so I look up there, see that it's just a redraw glitch, and go back to my code, where I type again, then the flash happens again, over and over.  Kind of gives me a headache after a while :-(
