Preview: text annotations are always centered

 
SUMMARY
In Preview, text annotations are always centered and you cannot change their alignment.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Preview
2. Open a PDF
3. Click Annotate to show the annotations toolbar
4. Click the Text tool
5. Type "hello"

Text is centered in the text box. You cannot make it left- or right-aligned.
