Product:OS X Product Version:10.7/10.8
Classification: Reproducible:Yes

Summary:

Changing a encrypted hfs volume to un-encrypted hfs with Disk Utility makes that volume unusable.

Steps to Reproduce:

Make the system (boot) volume of the drive secure via filevault control panel in 10.7, boot into 10.8 from a external drive, use Disk Utility to change the format from hfs encrypted to hfs non encrypted.

Expected Results:

See the volume in Disk Utility after un-encryption.

Actual Results:

A red error line is show in the log : "Disk Encryption failed with the error: There is not enough free space in the Core Storage Logical Volume Group for this operation."

The volume is not listed anymore, it is still visible in the partitions tab with a message that "This partition contains a locked disk and can not be resized until it is unlocked"

Regression:

Notes:

Screenshot of disk utility attached, log below.

The volume in cause was “Macintosh HD” for me , one of the two volumes on the disk, a subsequent "Repair" action shows a "Repairing volume failed: Disk object invalid or unable to serialize." for the first time, additional repairs do not show it anymore.
