Cannot remove Mail.app Unread Messages Badge

Summary: In the preferences of Mail.app, a user is required to show either an All Mailboxes count or Inbox only unread messages count on the Dock Icon. Steps to Reproduce: Launch Mail.app, open Preferences, select General pane, observe options under "Dock unread count" Expected Results: An option entitled "None" that disables the unread count icon badge, as well as other options. Actual Results: No ability to disable the Mail.app unread count icon badge. Regression: This option was present in previous versions of Mail and Mac OS X. Notes: Running Mail on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (12A269).

Use Notification Center
I actually asked this question on the Apple Stack Exchange, as it was driving me a bit batty. Turns out you can just flip off the badge count in Notification Center: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/58005/is-there-a-way-to-hide-the-unread-count-badge-in-mountain-lions-mail-app
