Not able to customize UIDatePicker in compact or inline mode

Not able to change the font style or color on UIDatePicker in compact or inline mode. Setting "datePickerObject.backgroundColor = .white" does not do anything. Same with changing the text color - "datePickerObject.setValue(UIColor.red, forKeyPath: "textColor")" does not do anything.
