Segmented Control custom background issue

Please open and run the attached "AppearancePlayground" project. Open the second tab named "Stars". Tap the button named "Push". Notice the segmented control named "First" and "Second". One half of the custom background of the selected segment is incorrectly rendered. See the attached screenshot. The same issue occurs in UISearchBar scope buttons.
